10 March 2025

On Friday, 7th March, staff members Dave Knatt and Nick Skett took a group of YMCA residents on a special trip to London, exploring the legacy of George Williams: Founder of the YMCA. The day began with an energetic drive down the M40 before arriving at the site of Hitchcock and Rogers Drapery shop, where George once lived and worked. After a photo by the commemorative plaque, the group walked to Blackfriars Bridge, where they reflected on the journey that led George Williams to create the YMCA.

At St. Paul’s Cathedral, they visited George’s memorial—thanks to some smooth negotiation skills from Dave. After a meal and some souvenir
shopping, the tired but happy residents dozed off on the drive home, leaving Nick to enjoy some peaceful country and western music.

This day of history and culture is a reminder of the importance of looking back at our origins. Understanding where we came from and how things began allows us to appreciate our growth, remain humble in our success, and be better prepared for whatever lies ahead of us.

A fantastic day, full of reflection, learning, good fun and great company; reminding us that understanding our past is key to shaping a brighter
future.
