We were delighted to welcome Chris Bloore, Labour MP for Redditch and newly appointed Parliamentary Patron of YMCA England & Wales, to Gordon Anstis House recently. His visit to Number 53 wasn’t just about enjoying a few sweet treats—it was a vital opportunity to showcase the passion, progress, and purpose that define YMCA Worcestershire.
Joined by several members of our dedicated staff, Chris engaged in open and meaningful conversations that spanned the spectrum—from legislative updates to on-the-ground challenges and recent successes. His willingness to listen, reflect, and respond with genuine interest made a lasting impression on all who were present. One key topic was the lowering of the legal voting age from 18 to 16—a move that signals greater youth empowerment, a value close to our mission. It was heartening to see Chris not only embrace the positive changes ahead but also show a readiness to engage with more difficult issues impacting our community.
Chris also had the chance to meet the incredibly talented Thomas Cross, a local artist bringing colour and community spirit to Knowle Close, one of our Church Hill residences. Thomas’s bold, community-focused artwork for the balconies is already generating excitement, and Chris’s enthusiasm for the project spoke volumes about his support for local creative initiatives.
Visits like these are more than symbolic—they’re essential. Building strong connections with parliamentary figures helps amplify our voice, strengthen our advocacy, and ultimately improve outcomes for those we support.
We thank Chris for his time, thoughtful engagement, and continued support of our YMCA. Together, through open dialogue and shared purpose, we’re building brighter futures.
