HR Co-ordinator and Wellness Advocate Emily Brooks was spotlighted this month. She says –
“My journey with YMCA hasn’t been long, but it has been full of so many highlights it’s hard to put it into words. Growing up with undiagnosed ADHD and Autism left me feeling like I didn’t belong anywhere, that I was never quite good enough, and even that I wasn’t deserving of success thanks to negative past experiences, so I spent 15 years working for myself as a voiceover artist and jazz singer to avoid having a slimy boss to answer to, but when I became a mother, my priorities changed, and I found myself going back into full time skilled work, with varied results. Then I met Dave Knatt – who gave me a chance even when advised not to (classic Dave) and is the reason I’m here today. From the moment I joined YMCA Worcestershire I felt welcome, valued and respected for exactly who I was, as well as my skills and experience. I’m so passionate about the work we do here, and I’m equally as dedicated to the incredible and inspirational people that make this organisation what it is. We never know what’s around the corner in this weird thing we call life, but I know that YMCA will be a guiding light for me and many others, for many years to come, no matter the adversity we face. It is a part of me, and always will be, and I can’t wait to see what we achieve together in the future.”
