My name is Marie, and I’m the Cleaning Operative at Foresters in Worcester. I’ve been part of YMCA Worcestershire for 12 years, starting back in 2013 as a volunteer cleaner when my daughter began full-time school—and I haven’t looked back since! From the very beginning, the residents and staff were so warm and welcoming that I instantly felt at home. For the first time, I truly felt I belonged somewhere, and getting paid for the work just felt like a bonus. I absolutely love working for the YMCA. The best part of my job is playing even a
small role in supporting residents, both past and present.
Over the years, I’ve seen young people come to us facing really tough challenges, and I’ve had the privilege of watching them grow—building trust, gaining confidence, and developing independence. Seeing someone turn their life around, with the help of all our dedicated staff, is incredible. I’m proud to contribute in my own way, whether it’s by chatting with a resident, helping them tidy their room, showing them how to use the washing machine, or assisting them with cooking.
Every day is different, and there’s never a dull moment. I feel so lucky to work with such amazing people, and I’m proud every time I see a resident achieve something. Not everyone can say they get that kind of reward from their job—and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
